As with all of the springs manufactured by Northeast Spring – custom engineered design capabilities are available for that special application. Our internal engineering team is ready to help you specify the right spring for your application.
Northeast Spring currently manufacturers two types of springs, torsion and extension. Each type of spring is ideally suited for a particular action and use. Torsion springs can be made from any geometry wire while extension springs are made from round wire.
Torsion Springs are defined as a spring that works by torsion or twisting. The amount of torque it exerts is proportional to the amount it is twisted. As load is applied the spring diameter will decrease and will increase in length. Torsion spring designs are typically wound in the direction of the coil winding. Normally torsion springs are used in designs around a shaft or mandrel to ensure location and stability.
Torsion springs for industrial applications:
- Have formed or straight ends
- Require blue prints for exact capabilities
Extension Springs are defined as a type of spring designed to support tensile or pulling loads. Extension springs are usually close wound and will possess initial spring energy. Typically extension springs have hooks or loops on the ends for securing or fastening to door or other objects.
Extension springs for industrial applications:
- Plain, standard machine double loop, agricultural style loops,
(45 degree angle)
- Side hooks
